Network News Blast #100: 2011-03-07
Topic: Anniversary Issue – Major Changes Coming to the “Blast”
Hello tennis friends in Volusia & Flagler Counties.
About two and a half years ago, you started receiving a weekly column for the tennis players and fans in our area. The e-mail goes to you and approximately 400 other tennis players in Volusia and Flagler counties and beyond (way beyond, in fact).
When you receive your “Blast,” it is sent from the
Daytonatennis@cfl.rr.com
address, right? That address belongs to the “Tennis Network of Greater Volusia County,” a 501c3 not-for-profit Community Tennis Association. The mission of the Network, in plain language, is to support tennis in our two counties. The Network has one part-time staffer, Peg Harper, who does the accounting work for the Network, regularly updates noteworthy tennis news on the “Daytonatennis.com” website, and e-mails out the “Blast.”
Over this 2+ year period, the Network has received a lot of great feedback from our readers. You are a remarkably thoughtful and articulate group. It has also become apparent that many of you want more tennis activities, tournaments, socials, charity events, pro/am tournaments, and so on.
In the past, funding for the “Network” came mostly through donations, USTA grant money, and small fees from players in our events. With all of those sources harder to come by, the Network needs to reposition itself and take better advantage of its (intangible) assets.
Going forward, the Network will be a membership-based organization, to better serve the needs of its players and itself. For a small annual fee of $10 for adults ($5 for juniors; $30 for businesses), members will continue to receive the “Blast,” have access to the Network website, will be able to participate in Network tournaments, and more. The Network will soon also contact local merchants, restaurants, tennis clubs, etc., to give you a discount for their products and services if you identify yourself as a Network member.
We are confident that you will find a Network membership worth the money you spend for it. Look at it this way: even if you don’t plan on participating in any events, don’t take advantage of any discounts anywhere, and never visit the Network website, you will still receive about 40 issues annually of the “Blast.”- which comes to about 25 cents per “Blast.” Is that too much for almost weekly, local, relevant tennis information?
Where to send your check? Tennis Network of Greater Volusia County, Attn. Treasurer Peg Harper, 5 Barcelona Trail, Ormond Beach, FL, 32174. Memberships run through December 31 of every year.
Thus, while today is the 100th issue of the “Blast,” it is also THE LAST OF THE BLAST - of the free ones, anyway. To receive future issues, send a check to the Network, and you will remain on our mailing list. In one of the next issues we will explain all the plans we have for the Network, tournaments, complete calendar of local tennis events, etc.
Dear tennis friends in Volusia/Flagler counties, hopefully you will join this new Network of tennis players, continue your subscription to the “Blast,” and will also participate in the events the Network will host. Happy Trails to y’all.
