Volusia Youth Players Fund
The Tennis Network of Greater Volusia County in Volusia County, FL, has announced the launch of the Volusia Youth Players Fund to support local youth tennis players with fees related to participation in USTA Florida Jr. Team Tennis leagues. "The Volusia Youth Players Fund is a community effort to support families that need assistance supporting their young players' tennis game through USTA programming," says Molly Zimmer, USTA Florida tennis program coordinator and USTA liaison to the Tennis Network.
"We have immediate need to help scholarship the cost of 30-40 players from Derbyshire Park in Daytona Beach who wish to participate in USTA Jr. Team Tennis this April," Zimmer says. "The Tennis Network is encouraging facilities to help raise money for the fund by hosting a fundraising event, reaching out to league players for a donation to the fund, and sharing this information with club tennis committees and helping us spread the word."
The Trails Racquet Club in Ormond Beach, FL, hosted the first fundraising event for the Youth Players Fund on Saturday, April 14, 2012. The event featured round robin play and a raffle, with 100 percent of the $10 per-player fee donated to the Fund. The event raised $870 for the Volusia Youth Players Fund.
Donations to the Fund should be made out to the Tennis Network and mailed to: Tennis Network of Greater Volusia, Attn. Treasurer Peg Harper, 5 Barcelona Trail, Ormond Beach, FL, 32174. The Tennis Network of Greater Volusia County is a registered USTA Community Tennis Association (CTA), with a mission "to grow the game of tennis within Volusia County with an emphasis on developing a junior pathway to promote tennis as a lifelong sport."
